10 Things to Remember When Having a Bad Day

You know those days when you wake up and it immediately feels like the universe is conspiring against you? Yes, those awful days when nothing goes according to plan and you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders.  

The truth is bad days happen to everyone. It’s about how you handle them that matters the most. Your attitude can make a bad day worse or it can make it better.

1. Accept that bad days are part of life

Maybe you’re having a bad day, week, or a month, but just remember it will pass, better days will come and those bad ones will seem like a distant memory. Just remember acceptance is the key!

2. The good and bad go hand in hand

Once you accept the bad you’ll be able to see that good and bad go hand in hand. Without the bad times and days, we wouldn’t be able to appreciate the good ones. 

Without failure, we wouldn’t be able to appreciate our wins. We wouldn’t be able to grow and improve. It’s the bad days that make us stronger and more resilient. You don’t even know, but maybe a bad day can be a blessing in disguise. A bad day can motivate us to try harder and to always get up once we’ve fallen.

3. Appreciate all the blessings in your life

Even during the bad days, our blessings are still there to remind us that not everything is that bad. And when you feel like bad days are about to break you, don’t hold in the tears – just release them. Don’t let all those pent up feelings pile up because they are exactly like a ticking time bomb – once they explode you’ll feel even worse.

Allow yourself to cry, it’s not a weakness but a healthy outlet – remember that for when the bad days come.

6. Make the most of every situation

Every situation – good or bad – offers a learning opportunity. Instead of stressing and worrying about things and situations that you can’t change you should try to make the most of them. 

Yes, you may be having a bad day, but look at it this way – what can I learn about myself or about the situation itself? If I can’t change something how will I react – will I be desperate, depressed, and anxious or can I learn to see all positive things in a bad day or situation?

If we learn to make the most of every situation and try to learn something from them our bad days won’t be all that bad. Just remember that there is a lesson to be learned in almost every part of our lives.

7. Don’t be a victim because you’re not

The thing about bad days is that, in most cases, they are only bad in our minds. What does that mean you may wonder? Well, on those bad days don’t allow yourself to think that the whole universe is conspiring against you. Don’t wallow in self-pity, don’t allow yourself to become the victim – because you’re not. 

You are the one controlling your thoughts and once you realize that completely, you’ll never again blame anyone else for what is happening to you – not even the universe. 

Learn to change the way you think, to change your thoughts – yes, a bad thing might have happened right at the beginning of your day, but that doesn’t mean that your whole day will be doomed now.  

The easiest thing in life is to blame others for everything that happens in our lives. But the truth is we are the only ones responsible. So, when a thought creeps up that you may be having a bad day, push it away and think positively.

8. Fight bad days with laughter

There are so many things that can cheer you up on a bad day – you just need to look for them. Just like tears can make us feel better during a bad day, so can laughter. It is said that laughter is the best medicine.

Laughing has many benefits including boosting the immune system, relaxing muscles, relieving physical tension, and stress. If laughing brings so many benefits than why don’t we laugh more often?

Laughing also improves our mood and helps us cope better with difficult situations. So, don’t let bad days be an excuse for you not to laugh. Find reasons, opportunities to laugh, relieve all the anxiety that you’re carrying inside you. Just laugh!

9. Don’t give up

Throwing in the towel seems like a good thing to do when nothing is going right. During the bad days, this is precisely what most people would do. But that doesn’t mean that it is the right thing to do.

Giving up just because you’re having a bad day is no excuse at all. Struggling, but especially struggling and having self-doubts during bad days is not easy and the easiest thing is to give up.

The key to surviving bad days is to be persistent and to remember that the struggle and bad days are just temporary. Persistence and self-belief will get you through even the toughest of days.

So, don’t give up, be stubborn and persistent and it will pay off, not just during that one bad day, but in life as well!

10. It will pass

In the grand scheme of things, one bad day is so minuscule no matter how big it might seem at that moment. If nothing else works, just remember that it will pass, just like everything passes.

Even though it may sound like a cliché and the worst advice anyone can give you – it’s still true. Bad days don’t last forever, just like good days don’t last forever either. Like already mentioned, life is a perfect balance of both good and bad days. 

One bad day is not the end of the world. As long as you can remember that the night will fall and the bad day will come to an end – everything will be just fine and it will pass.
