4 Tested Odour Free ideas to keep everybody happy at home when living with pets

We all love pets. Especially kids, who also learn plenty of values when they share their childhood and their home with their furry best friends.

I remember mine. I was happily surrounded by cats and dogs. They taught me compassion, how to share, how to take care of others, unconditional love, loyalty, responsibility, and patience. The downside was that my house always smelled like cat litter and old food, but that was something I didn´t care about much as a child.

As a parent, I appreciate more the fact that my house doesn´t smell like a zoo. Also nowadays children develop more allergies and hayfever problems due to many factors compatible with our modern lifestyle.

I now live in my own apartment, have pets, and after researching and testing, my house is odour free, and everybody is happy in it.

These are 4 easy ideas you can put into practice for your own house to make it odour free once and for all!

1. Get an Air Filter Tower

An air filter purifier is a good solution if you want to have your room odour free and manage pet allergies. Filtering the air worked very well for me, as I used to have allergies to cats in the past before I got Lucy and Tabby. Thanks to the air filters I could work on my allergy gradually until I no longer have! This is also a growing problem a lot of kids have.

Selecting air purifiers with a HEPA filter make sure that the air in the room is clean and allergens free. They normally work by filtering any airborne particle that can be harmful to your health, such as bacteria, pollutants or allergens that can cause you episodes of high fever.

These air-cleaning devices come in all sort of sizes and capacities.

An air filter tower might not be the nicest item in your house, but if you love pets, it might be one of these things worth having.

It takes only a few hours to notice the difference. After a night sleep, you can notice that the air is more clear and breathable. It´s amazing!

2. Invest in Proven techniques to avoid certain behaviours of your pet

As a cat owner who wouldn’t fathom living without my feline friends, I sometimes have become frustrated with their recent “spraying” issues.

I have been using a system called Cat Spraying No More, a group of proven techniques to avoid cats peeing and spraying outside the litter box.

I understood within the years that you have to know and read your cat´s behaviour and try to prevent the one you want to correct. After all, as a behaviourist, that is what I do to earn my living!

I have come across this method. Cat Spraying No More is a system that has all you need to understand why your cat is doing what it’s doing, and how to bring about a peaceful solution that will not only fix the problem but will serve to bring you closer to your cat, as well as saving you hours and money cleaning the carpet and the rest of the house.

Spraying, or peeing, around the house is a big no-no, for obvious reasons; and sometimes, cats that regularly use their litter box turn to other areas of the house to urinate or spray. As a result, owners tend to focus on the issue of the mistargeted urination, rather than on why the behaviour is occurring – the key element to Cat Spraying No More.

This system carefully outlines various scenarios of unwanted spraying and targets possible causes in an easy to understand and well-laid out format. The method eases the reader into the topic and playfully chides with owners about the author’s own unfortunate experiences, how the author was able to overcome them, and how you can, too.

This product is focused on cats, but can work with other pets too when they live with each other!

3. Get a Pet odour free enzymatic spray

Sometimes accidents happen outside the litter box, especially if your cat is stressed, upset, or simply is new to the training.

It´s not a secret that the cat´s urine smell really strong. This is due to its high concentration in uric acid, which is very hard to dissolve chemically speaking. It lingers for a very long time after the stain, driving away even other odour-producing elements, so your entire room would have that long-lasting concentrated pee smell. A normal spray with a nice odour wouldn´t cut it, as it wouldn´t chemically dissolve what´s causing the smell. Enzymatic sprays would do the job, as they would tackle the problem going to its root, which is dissolving the microcrystals of the uric acid that cause the smell.

We have been using sprays to avoid our house smelling like a zoo between the cats and the dogs own Eau the perfume. We have been using a solution called Live Pee Free and is one of this lifesaver products when the inevitable happened.

According to the company, it cancels the ions that cause bad odours with good odour ions.

I can warranty that the long-lasting litter smell is gone after spraying consciously and the smell doesn´t come back!

4. Get an odour eliminating candle

Candles are a great very “homie feeling” solution for your house. It always gives such a romantic touch and they are perfect for a date. But for your pet?

It can surprise you how a candle can mask the smell of all the pets you have in your house. I have 2 cats and a dog and, apart from the noise, I barely notice they are there.

I have candles spared through several rooms, and I have to say, in addition to making my dog smell better when is present in the room, it gives such a nice touch to the house.

Beware if you have kids to put them out of their reach and explain the risks.
