Does a Foot Detox Work?

Foot detoxes are becoming increasingly popular nowadays, as they are being used to rid the body of any harmful toxins. There are many different toxins that people have to deal with in the world, ranging from impurities in the air, to chemicals in your home and beauty products. Since foot detoxes have increased in popularity over the years, it is now a lot easier to get foot detox machine, or even visit a spa that offers this treatment.

You will find many health and wellness spas, and alternative health offices who offer this treatment, and obviously, foot detoxes are being offered for at-home use as well. So, you may well be wondering what does a foot detox do and how can it help you? It is certainly something of interest and might actually be something that could benefit you as well, so keep on reading to find out how it can actually help you!

How is an Ionic Foot Detox Supposed to Work?

If you’ve never heard of an ionic foot detox or never used one before, then you are probably wondering how it works. Basically, it works by pulling the toxins in your body out through our feet. If you see a foot detox bath advertised, then you will see that it is a safe and relaxing way to clear out the body of toxins – the ionizing machine works to ionize the foot bath water.

This process is said to give the hydrogen in the water a positive charge. This positive charge is said to attract the negatively charged toxins in your body. Supposedly, the ions in the foot bath water hold a charge that enables them to bind heavy metals and remove toxins in your body (similar to how a magnet works). This is how the toxins are pulled out through the bottom of your foot, because the ions pull them out just like a magnet.

What is Actually Causing the Water to Change Colour?

You might have read that some foot detox advocates claim that if the water in the foot bath changes colour, then this means that the detox is working. This is not true. The detox working has nothing to do with the water changing colour, so why does this happen? The water colour can change for a whole host of reasons, but the main one is that there are impurities in the water. This is normally something that happens when people use tap water.

It might not even be the water; it might just be the foot bath itself. Although foot bath manufacturers say the ionizing charge will remove metals and toxins from the body of the person using it, they don’t explain how the charge skips over the metals that are in the foot bath. Moving on from this though, some foot baths use special salts in the water, which can interact and cause the water to change colour as well. So really, the water changing colour isn’t of that great importance, it’s just an effect of using the foot bath.

Who Should Consider a Foot Detox?

Pretty much anyone should consider getting a foot detox. The only people who shouldn’t are those with open sores or an infection on their feet. If this doesn’t affect you, then you can enjoy the benefits that a foot detox can bring. A warm foot soak can help you feel more relaxed, and generally will put you in a better mood.

You don’t need an expensive foot detox machine either, just use some Epsom salts and put them in a foot bath, this will help refresh and clean your feet. This is a great way to help you relax after a hard day, and it can also help revive circulation in your feet. You might want to consider using this treatment if you suffer from athlete’s foot as well.
