Jeff Bezos is the richest man on the planet. You already knew that about the Amazon mogul, but there’s more to the man than his extraordinary wealth. For instance, he once worked at McDonald’s as a teenager. It took seven years for Amazon to turn over a profit. His passion for space saw him found Blue Origin, which has one primary goal: to make the human species multi-planetary.
He also wears a Ulysse Nardin Dual Time watch.
Now for the regular person, an Ulysse Nardin is a luxury watch that is out of their price range. They’d be looking at spending a large chunk of their annual wage packet before they could sport one on their wrist. For Mr Bezos, however, the price tag is not exactly a concern – and that’s putting it mildly.
Thanks to research by Betway Casino, it’s time to take a closer look at this unique situation.
Based on standard prices, an Ulysse Nardin Dual Time watch will set you back around £9,670. The average salary in the UK is reported £29,009. That means the average person would have to save up their wages for about four months before they could splash out on a Dual Time. Oh, and that’s if they forego all expenses such as a mortgage, food and drink, transport, etc.
In comparison, Bezos has a conservative net worth of £112 billion. This means the business tycoon could purchase his watch a further 11,572,018 times. As a result, he could gift every single person in Belgium a Dual Time watch – although Ulysse Nardin would have to hire a small country of their own to meet the demand!
For another ridiculous statistic, Bezos’ money machine means he earns more in one hour than virtually every other person will in their lifetime. According to calculations by Business Insider, he pockets about £117,500 every minute. That’s right: every minute he could afford to purchase a further 12 Dual Times.
All of this may make you wonder the following question: Why does he wear such a relatively modest watch?
The most luxurious of watches
Okay, Bezos isn’t at the same level of watch modesty as Bill Gates. The Microsoft man – and former richest man on the planet – is known to wear a Casio Duro, which set him back just £52. Yet when you consider Bezos’ bank balance, a timepiece that only costs £9,670 seems a little out of place.
This is particularly the case when you start looking at the list of the most expensive watches of all time. At the very top, and by some distance, is the Grandmaster Chime by Patek Philippe which is valued at £23,722,177. This is followed by the Rolex Paul Newman Daytona and Patek Philippe Stainless Steel, which have price tags of £13,497,691 and £8,448,760 respectively.
While those amounts would even be baulked at by most of the world’s wealthiest people, they’re hardly of concern for Bezos. He could buy the most expensive watch ever and have the money back in his bank account by the end of the day.
