How Can Your Business be Eco-friendlier?

The climate crisis has been going on for years, but it’s only in the last decade or so that it appears to be more prevalent for a lot of people. There is more upfront discussion about the impact society is having on the environment, and pressures placed on governments worldwide to do more to tackle the issue. Individuals are also looking at ways that they can be more environmentally conscious, from reducing their energy and water usage at home, to shopping with brands that are eco-friendly and are committing to going green. If you are a business owner who wants to make sure that you’re doing your bit for the planet, here are a few ways you can make your company eco-friendlier.

Reduce Paper Waste and Recycle

One of the easiest ways you can move towards greener business operations is by reducing paper waste in the office. There are a lot of documents that get printed out which often don’t need to be. Digital copies are perfectly adequate. Unless printing information out for meetings or to show clients is essential, don’t do it. Make sure that your employees are doing the same by sending out an email asking them to follow these new guidelines. You should also make sure that any paper that is used is being recycled, as should your printer’s ink cartridges and anything else in the office which can be recycled.

Use Eco-friendly Packaging

If you work in retail and send your orders out to customers orwork in the food industry and serve takeaway options, consider the packaging that you use to do this. There are plenty of recyclable packaging ideas available to you and this will reduce single-use plastics coming out of your business. This is also a great way to show customers that you care about the environment as they will see that you’re using responsible, eco-friendly packages sent from your store.

Raise Money for Environmental Charities

Raising money for any charity is a great thing to do as a business, both for your public image and, more importantly, to give back to the community. If you want to do more for the environment specifically, consider fundraising ideas for charities that focus on this issue. Just make sure that any fundraising event you organize is also eco-friendly, such as a fun run or other sports challenge, a fair-trade bake sale, or a vegan fair.

Make It Easier for Employees to Use Green Travel

Finally, consider how you can make it easier for your employees to use green modes of transportation to get to the office. During the pandemic, your teams might have had to work from home, and perhaps they still are for a few days a week, but when they are coming into the office this could result in extra vehicles on the road. Some of your employees might have no choice but to drive in, but others could cycle if they aren’t too far away. To encourage them to do this, make sure your office has a safe place that they can leave their bikes, and even put in showers and changing rooms if possible so that they can freshen up when they arrive.

If you want your company to start doing more for the environment, all of the above are simple but effective places to start.
