Getting married seems to be getting more and more expensive. Newly engaged couples are often shocked to discover the long list of things they will need to fund when it comes to their special day. This includes legal fees, as well as the cost of the venue, flowers, catering, entertainment, photography, wedding dress, suits, and gifts for your bridal party. If you are worried about how you are going to be able to fund your big day, read on for some suggestions.
Work out your finances
There is only one place to begin, and this is with managing your money more effectively. You need to get a grip on the money you are going to be able to put away every month. Work out your monthly incomings, as well as your monthly outgoings, and then attribute a portion of the remainder to your living expenses. The remaining sum will give you an indication of how much you are going to be able to save every month.
Get creative with the smaller details
You can save a lot of money by being creative with some of the smaller details. For example, you can create your own invites and save the dates, rather than spending a large sum of money on them being designed and printed professionally. You can even make your own centrepieces and decorations to save some money too.
Take out a loan
Of course, this is a suggestion that should be approached with caution. Taking out a loan is not right for everyone. However, doorstep loans can help you to pay some of the cost of your wedding if you have a payment pending and you don’t have immediate access to funds. For example, if you want to put down a deposit for a venue today, but you don’t have the money available, a loan can be a viable short-term solution, so long as you are confident you will be able to pay it back fully and on-time.
Think about corporate sponsorship
This is a suggestion that is worth exploring a little bit further. Some brides and grooms will sell a portion of their wedding to corporate sponsorship effectively. For instance, you may be able to get wedding invites free of charge if you enable the design and print company to incorporate their name on their invite and brand their business effectively. You can do this with many other aspects of your wedding too, from the favours to the flowers. Your wedding may become somewhat of a marketing event, but it is a great way to fund it.
Think about asking for cash gifts
Last but not least, instead of presenting your guests with a gift list of all of the presents you would like, ask for cash instead. You can incorporate this on your wedding invitation by saying something like, “we’ve got enough toasters and kettles, so if you would like to give us a wedding gift, red envelopes will be very much welcomed.” By doing this, your guests will be much more inclined to give you money rather than a gift.
