Vauxhall Grandland X – My Thoughts

Vauxhall ……… not a brand of car I’ve ever owned myself but a very popular brand non the less! My grandad has a Vauxhall Astra which he’s had for a long time and it’s always served him very well. When Vauxhall got in touch with me to see whether I’d be interested in test driving the Vauxhall Grandland X, I was intrigued! Partly because I’ve never had a Vauxhall but partly because I’ve heard of the Vauxhall Grandland X before and heard brilliant things about it.

This was the perfect opportunity to try it out, to see if the things I’ve heard were true! Before getting into my thoughts on the Vauxhall Grandland X. I have to say that I’m no expert but one thing I do know, is a good family car when I get the chance to drive one!

This car has a bit of everything, safety, space, performance, flexibility amongst other things.

Vauxhall Grandland X has Excellent Safety Features

I have to start with the one thing I focus on most ….. Vauxhall Grandland X and safety.

Having three children, safety is a crucial aspect when it comes to choosing the perfect car. That’s why the Vauxhall Grandland X would be a good choice because it has all the modern safety features.

It comes equipped with what Vauxhall call the ‘Safety Pack’ which consists of the following:

  • Driver drowsiness system
  • Forward collision alert
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane assist
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Lane departure warning
  • Cruise control
  • six airbags

Whilst test driving the Vauxhall Grandland X, I didn’t get the chance to witness all features in action. But knowing they were there made me feel safe. And more importantly made me comfortable enough to know my kids were safe! While talking to Vauxhall I also learned that you can get the Vauxhall Grandland x not only as front wheel drive, but also as a four wheel drive, which can be useful in winter times. For me the rear parking sensors and lane departure warning stood out the most. Very useful in everyday situations.

Vauxhall Grandland X Offers Outstanding Comfort

The Grandland X is a luxurious and very comfortable car. The front seats are ergonomic which makes them really comfortable in the driving position, especially important for those longer journeys.

One aspect that I absolutely love about the Vauxhall Grandland X is that the heated front seats. Something that I’ve not had the chance to experience before. The steering wheel is also heated which is a revelation to me!

I went out on a cold morning while I had the Vauxhall Grandland X and these two features were a God send. My hands were freezing and the steering wheel soon brought them back to life! On the same steering wheel I found useful buttons that help me manage the car while driving safely.

The Vauxhall Grandland X Isn’t Shy

Another thing that is important to me when looking for a car, is the performance. Ensuring the car is family friendly is crucial but at the same time, I need to have something with a good kick.

The Vauxhall Grandland X is definitely not shy when it comes to performance. It’s a smooth looking car and very comfortable but vicious at the same time!

The Vauxhall Grandland X I test drove had a 1.5 litre petrol engine with Turbo which gave it that extra edge. The acceleration was great and the steering was effortless! The road noise and wind noise is nicely canceled, which is also great if you have young children in the rear seats.

You may be thinking that with Turbo present the MPG isn’t great …. but you’d be wrong!

The Grandland X has an average MPG of between 48 and 53 which makes this car very efficient, which is good for your wallet! I checked and by now you can get the model in different versions:

  • Diesel engines with Diesel particulate filter
  • Plug in hybrids
  • Standard petrol

Vauxhall Grandland X Petrol & Hybrid

The Vauxhall Grandland X plug in hybrid versions come with a battery power that provides an electric range of 31 miles. Unfortunately, there is not a full Electric motor available yet. But you can feel the electric boost already in the hybrid version. We will see when they will introduce the electric motor for this model.

By now you will find plenty of options on the used market, which will make it pricewise even more interesting.

Other Features

I could mention all the other features of the Vauxhall Grandland X has but I have to highlight the ones I thought were very useful or just cool!

One of those in the family SUV is the panoramic roof which not only did I love, my kids did too!

Vauxhall Grandland Boot Space

Another really useful feature occurs when putting the car into reverse. The door mirrors move so you can see more of the floor which is really cool! Also there is a rear view camera that appears on the screen and blind spot indicators with parking sensors.

There was one element that slightly annoyed me, which was the automatic windscreen wipers. When I turned them on it started well, it was only raining slightly and the wipers only moved every few seconds which was great.

When it started to rain more the wipers sped up as expected. The rain slowed again, but the wipers didn’t which was slightly frustrating. This was only a slight issue and wouldn’t put me off the car!

The interior layout was pleasant, which also had some small things like a USB socket in the centre console and some fuel economy advice.

Family Friendly

This is definitely a family SUV that’s family friendly! It has plenty of space in the back where we managed to fit our three car seats with room to spare! Most cars do not have such space for the little ones.

The boot was a good size but to be very honest, it wasn’t quite big enough for us. We had to take the parcel shelf out to fit the double pushchair in. But once the parcel shelf was out, we did manage okay so it wouldn’t put us off buying this car!

There is a central lock button at the front of the car so I could ensure all doors and windows were locked, making sure my kids wondering hands wouldn’t accidentally open the doors or windows.

Expensive versions of the car have also other extras, such as

  • elaborated infotainment system
  • leather seats
  • dual zone climate control
  • wireless charging
  • sport nav or tech line nav
  • powered tailgate

To bring my thoughts of the car to a close …… I would honestly go out and buy this car if I had the money to do so! It has everything I love in a car. If you’re looking for your next family car, I have no doubt that the Vauxhall Grandland X should be on your shortlist. It is definitely worth a test drive with some heated seats and competitively priced!
