When you travel to a foreign country for either business or pleasure there are some things that you simply cannot do without. For some it may be plenty of sunscreen and for others its their favourite travel pillow or headphones, but one of the vital components of any trip is a valid travelling visa. Different countries have different procedures when it comes to applying for a visa, and when applying for a visa for Australia the application process couldn’t be simpler, but without the valid paperwork you will not be able to check in to your flights.
So which type of visa should you get?
There are a few different types of Australia tourist visa available so you have to make sure you are obtaining the visa that is relevant to your needs as a visitor to the country. The most frequently requested visa is the eVisitor which is commonly known as the business/tourist visa and can be used for a multitude of purposes, including holidays, business trips, volunteer work and training courses. It can be applied for online at the price of £14.95 and will allow you to stay in Australia for a period no longer than 3 months and you will not be able to carry out any form of salaried work. This visa remains valid for 12 months from the day the application is successful.
Another highly used visa is the Electronic Travel Authority visa (or ETA for short). It is meant for those that are not eligible to apply for the eVisitor and the two are similar in the fact that your allowed duration to stay in Australia is the same, however the ETA is far more expensive at approximately €90 and the application procedure is more lengthy.
Both of these visas do come with a list of prerequisites that must be followed.
- On arrival your passport must be valid for at least 6 months
- You do not have tuberculosis at the time of your visit to Australia
- You will not be following an education or training in Australia lasting for a period longer than 3 months
- You have not been convicted of a prison sentence totalling more than 12 months
- You will not be selling good or services to Australian consumers during your trip
- You do not have any outstanding debts with the Australian government
Other visa types allow your visit to be longer, such as the working holiday visa which allows you to stay for up to 12 months and also work for Australian companies.
