It goes without saying that planning a christening is one of the most exciting things that any parent has to organise. After all, it is all about your child and celebrating that they have been born. That said, planning a christening is not always easy and there are plenty of things that you are going to need to think about.
To help you to make sure that your celebration is everything that it needs to be, we have put together our guide to the most important things to consider when it comes planning a christening.
Pick your church
One of the first things that you need to do when it comes to planning a christening is to make sure that you have picked a church. In the most part you should be picking a church that is local to you, especially since you are going to need to attend a Sunday service a couple of times before the big day.
Choose the Godparents
The next thing that you should do, is pick who you want to act as Godparents to your child. The role of a Godparent is that of guiding your child through their life. You will also need to believe that they are going to be there through thick and thin; a part of your kids’ life until they are fully grown.
Think about what you want your child to wear
The most traditional approach to take for your child at their christening is for them to wear a christening gown. However, this doesn’t mean that this is for everyone. Essentially you want to make sure that your child will be comfortable throughout the day, but also that they look smart enough for the ceremony and the photos too.
Plan the party
You won’t have much of a say on how the christening service is going to go. But, the good news is that you can control the party afterwards. You need to think about whether or not you want it to a larger more formal style party (almost setup like a wedding reception) or whether you want something smaller and more intimate. It really does depend on you as a family and also how many people that you think you are going to invite; as well as how many of those guests are going to be children themselves.
Get some food organised
One thing that is for sure, no matter the type of party that you go for, you are going to need to provide food. The food that you serve is again down to you. Some prefer to make sandwiches and more standard buffet food; whilst others might want to cook something hot. You may already think that you have enough on your plate, and rather than catering yourself, will arrange a catering service to take care of the food for your instead.
Don’t forget about the cake
The final thing that you must think about when it comes to planning a christening, is organising a cake. Again, much like the rest of the food, you can bake one yourself. Or, you could ask a family member to help you. If no-one in your family is any good at baking, then it might be a better idea to arrange for someone professional to make the cake.
No matter what you decide to do, if you take a look at our list, then you will remember absolutely everything that you need to have and your christening will be the very best celebration that you can hope for.
