Working From Home During Lockdown

We are all facing a new lockdown and because of that many of us are now having to work from home. It isn’t an easy thing to do, but for a lot of us we have no choice but to stay safe. However, being flexible and trying to make the most of this time is essential. Working from home can be hard, so here are some tips to ensure you get the most out of it. While it may be temporary it can still be a productive and enjoyable time, especially avoiding the commute and having extra time at home with the family.

Dress for the day

One of the first things to do would be to dress for the day. It can be so tempting to just embrace pyjamas or loungewear but this can be counter productive. You don’t necessarily need to put on a shirt and tie, unless that is what you want to do, but dressing appropriately for the day can help you to feel more ready. Whether that is keeping warm in men’s fisherman sweaters or even just a smart t-shirt. This will come in handy if you have to have any emergency zoom meetings or skype calls with customers or clients.

Figure out what time of the day you are productive

Another thing to do would be to figure out what time of day you are more productive. It isn’t easy to assume you can dedicate the same timeframe, such as a nine to five, to working when doing it from home. You will have more distractions and things to consider. However, working from home gives you flexibility. So you could start working at 5am if that suits you, or in the evening if you wanted. Figure out the times that work well for you and enjoy the flexibility.

Have a dedicated area to work in

When you work from home, there will always be distractions. So you need to try and create an area of your home that you can work from. It will also help you to try and distinguish the balance between working and home life. If you have a spare room you could convert it into an office. Although if this is temporary and you don’t have the space, then just a corner of your home will do, or even a section of the dining table. You need to make sure you can walk away from your work and enjoy family time and also relax.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself

Finally, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. It isn’t easy working from home, especially if youa have never done it before. You want to try and enjoy your time at home and this unique opportunity but you do need to also have the ability to complete your work load and do your job. You will manage it and you will be successful doing it.

Let’s hope these tips help you when it comes to working from home during these unprecedented times.
