Smoking is one of the hardest habits to break and if you are smoking regularly, you may be desperate to let it go once and for all for your health. There are 70% of Americans out there who smoke that would love to quit, but because smoking is one of the most addictive habits out there, it’s’ so much harder to give it up. Kicking the habit once and for all and adopting some better lifestyle choices is a must, and you can do that with the right help.
The obvious thing to do is work on giving up, but smoking is addictive. Lighting up a cigarette is reflective for some people, especially those who find it hard to be without one. They use it as a coping mechanism to destress and cope for the day, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Understanding this can help you to get some insight into combatting those cravings once and for all. Below, we’ve put together four ways that you can let go of smoking.
- Use smoking aids. Whether you want to use nicotine patches, a pod vape kit or counseling, giving up the habit is easier if you can turn something else into a new crutch. You may even find that each time you want to smoke you drink ice cold water instead – which can help! It’s far healthier to swap your smoking habit for something else, especially if it’s going to be something that’s healthier for you instead of cigarettes. Drinking plenty of water is better for you than smoking, and you can rely on the smoking aids to help you to get where you want to be!
- Take your time. The best thing to do is to get some help to take your time with quitting your habit. Speak to your doctor, rally your friends and use their help and advice to keep you away from buying more cigarettes. You deserve to quit this habit, and the only way that you’re going to be able to do this is by ensuring that you give yourself the time to give up. You may think that this is going to be a case of finishing a pack and you’re done: but it’s not!
- Consider exercising. Moving your body is going to help you to distract your mind from smoking. Working out may not be your thing, but it could be if you take the time to get into it and move your mind off the cravings you have! Exercise can get your blood flowing and the adrenaline moving, and it can make a big difference to the way that you feel about your health.
- Healthy snacks will help. Smoking will suppress your appetite, and if you have healthy snacks to hand, you will be reaching for the good stuff when you’re craving. It’s important that you don’t ruin your health in other ways while you give up a bad habit. Snacking on unhealthy food is not a good swap!
