Do you use your smartphone as an alarm clock? If so, you might think nothing of it. After all, the phone is with you anyway, so you might as well set the alarm and let it wake you up. It saves having another clock to deal with, and it’s convenient. Plus, the function is there. Why wouldn’t you use it?
The truth is there are several reasons why you should use your smartphone as an alarm clock. Read on to find out what some of them are so you can make the switch and leave your phone alone.
Every screen, no matter what device it is linked to or how big or small it is, emits blue light. Whilst blue light isn’t harmful as such, it can have a detrimental effect on your sleeping patterns. This is because it causes the body’s internal clock – the circadian rhythm – to fall out of sync, and your brain just won’t know when it’s time for sleep and when it’s time to wake up. If you don’t feel tired at bedtime but you’re exhausted in the morning, this could be why.
Ideally, you shouldn’t have any devices in your bedroom at all. From a TV to a laptop to a smartphone, they could all be causing you to have a bad night’s sleep, and this can lead to health problems and stress, not to mention you’re less productive during the day and won’t reach your potential. Leaving your phone in another room and setting an alarm clock instead should help you sleep much more soundly.
When you’re thinking of how your bedroom should or could look, simply lying your smartphone down on the bedside table and calling that your clock isn’t good enough. At least, it’s not good enough if you intend to make your bedroom look stylish and comfortable.
Putting an alarm clock on your bedside table, something that is a permanent feature, is much more aesthetically pleasing. And you don’t have to have an analogue version if it doesn’t match the rest of the room since there are plenty of attractive digital clocks too. In fact, when you see how digital alarm clocks have evolved over time, you’ll realise that they can make a true statement in any room.
We’re all connected to one another much more than ever before, and although that can be great when it comes to socialising, it’s not so great when it comes to working. By having your smartphone with you all the time, even when you’re sleeping, your mind can never truly relax, and you’ll never get out of ‘work mode’. You have probably even been in the situation where you wake up in the night and instantly reach for your phone, or it’s the first thing you do in the morning, just to check in with work.
This will lead to a great deal of stress since you must make time to relax. By leaving your phone in a different room and using a real alarm clock to help you wake up, you can reduce this stress, and you’ll feel much better for it.
