The Real Productivity Boosters Every Home Office Needs

Do you work from home? Then you might want to finally get yourself a proper home office to work in – if you don’t have one already.

Because doing your best to hot desk back and forth from the bed, sofa, and kitchen table is only going to make your job harder. You need a fixed, central, and productive working space.

While you can fill that space with whatever items you like, you need to factor in the places that your productivity pain points really live. And if you’re anything like us, these issues are going to fall into the categories down below.

A Bit of Privacy

Working requires focus – full stop. It’s rare to do a good job when your brain isn’t on task, even if you’ve done the same thing a thousand times over by now.

You’ll slow down, you’ll make a few small and silly mistakes, and your work day won’t feel as satisfying when it’s over and done with.

That’s why you always need a bit of privacy in a home office. It needs to be a space where you can block out the distractions and interruptions, whether or not you can physically shut a door behind you. So when it comes to your very own office redesign, you should think about where these privacy issues exist and stamp them out. It’s for your own good!

Desk Space

You know what happens when you’ve got more desk space to work with?

You can get a bigger, more ergonomic keyboard. You’ve got room to fit your water bottle without having to constantly move it. You can plug in and use a second monitor – or get a wider monitor – that prevents you constantly switching tabs and breaking focus.

When you can start using equipment like this, you’re going to find working more of a breeze. You’ll be more comfortable, you’ll spend less time flicking your eyes around and trying to keep track, and you’re less likely to lose your place.

Peace and Quiet

We touched on distractions in our first point, but we really want to hammer home the need for peace and quiet here! Because it’s hard to work in a space that’s noisy, where something is always going on.

No matter how good someone claims to be at multitasking, or blocking out sound without using earbuds, it’s going to draw your focus away and take up a lot of the room in your brain.

You need peace and quiet more than anything else. Remember, research shows that the average person takes about 23 minutes to regain their focus after a distraction. That means for every hour you work, if you’re distracted even just once per hour, you could lose more than a third of your working time.

If you’d like to squeeze a bit more productivity out of your working day, your home office needs to smooth away issues like these. Get some privacy, make some peace, and buy yourself a bigger desk!
