The inexperienced employee will learn from their more experienced colleague and will also be able to pass feedback onto the experienced team member so they can learn at the same time. It is a progressive onboarding experience: new staff will receive lots of time and attention from their buddy to help them develop expertise and confidence quickly. 

In order to implement a buddy scheme in your workplace, you will first need to identify the most experienced members of your team and conduct an interview. Find out where their expertise lies and which areas they feel confident in teaching. You’ll then need to match these experienced team members up with appropriate newcomers. It isn’t a foolproof training method. Tensions can arise when experienced staff members feel bogged down by the presence of a buddy that is yet to have learned the ins and outs of their work.
