5 HR Trends To Look Out For in 2020

2020 is just around the corner and this means that it is the perfect time to think about what HR trends are likely to pop up. After all, if we have our fingers on the pulse on the latest trends, then we can make sure that we implement them and get the most benefit for our business.

Employee apps and intranet

It might not be a new trend, but employee apps and employee intranet do not look like they are going anywhere and with good reason. The great thing about both of these things is that they make communication in the workplace as easy as possible to do. HR is not always easy to manageand it is no secret that those who work within HR can be hugely stressed with a large to do list to get through on a daily basis. 

The great thing about having an employee app or an intranet in your workplace is that they can make HR that much easier to do. They can help professionals send internal communications effectively and they are also great as a central place to store documents, when you are able to share key documents and policies that your employees are going to need with ease. 

Flexible working

Employee morale and employee happiness is incredibly important in any business. After all, without your staff members performing as they should, you can find that things start to go wrong. There are a wealth of ways that you can try to keep your employees as happy as possible, one is with flexible working.

Flexible working is designed to help staff who have other commitments to manage their working life with their home life. They can suggest a working pattern that is better for them, and, as long as fits within business need it can be agreed. However, it is important that they understand that it needs to be agreed with the best interests of the business in mind.

Along with flexible working we have remote working. Remote working can be somewhat of a headache for businesses (especially HR) however, it is incredibly effective. It helps with the home/life balance that we have already mentioned, but it also helps with less commuting to and from the office which can save employees money and improve their quality of life.

A chatbot will point that person in the right direction and then it is down to them to answer the question. Of course, they might find that they are still not sure of the answer, which means that they will need to go back to HR, but this isn’t always the case.

Data is a huge part of business and therefore it comes as no surprise that it has enormous applications for HR too. Within HR the data that is looked at will definitely concern the employees more than the customer base, however, it can have a much wider use than you realise. 

You can use it to look at employee demographics, as well as recruitment related data. You can also use data as a way to look at the performance of KPI’s which can then be passed back down to the employees. The only trouble with data is that you can find it overwhelming. Which means that you need to make sure that only the key pieces of information is tracked and everything else is filtered through for reference if needed to be consulted. 

At its core, HR might not be set to change in the next year, especially when it comes to the function that it provides and how it sits within the business. However, what does change are the key trends that are around HR. This could be ways to work, ways to keep employees happy or ways to make things a little bit easier. All of which can make a real difference to how a business works and how the employees within it are treated.
